Didnt quite get round to blogging my 10 on the 10th yesterday but did write it down ready for posting. A few weeks ago we went on holiday to the Isle of Wight. It was the perfect location for a two year old. Lots of things to do and the weather was kind to us.
Here are my 10 holiday highlights:
- Matthew loved the Ferry - or what he called 'the big big boat'. His first time on any kind of boat.
- Lunch in the car in the rain - only one day of very heavy rain - but all British holidays need a picnic in the car
- Flying a kite on Sandown beach. It was just fantastic.
- Rock pooling at Bembridge beach
- Visiting the Seaview Wildlife Park - Matthew loved the area where you walk through with the wallabies and would have spent all day stroking them
- The Owl and Monkey Haven - a lovely project rescuing animals that are no longer wanted or are not fitting in at other zoos
- A walk in the woods - collecting pine cones and finding crickets and ladybirds on tree stumps
- The great escape tunnel - at a farm soft play - Matthew lay on his back and went through the tunnel on a pully system, He loved it!
- Visting the lemurs at Amazon World
- First proper ice cream (he has had ice cream at home or restaurants - but this was Matthew first day out ice cream all of his own - he has had a few more since!)

10 on the 10th - My holiday to do list
Recently Ive found myself saying to Matthew 'Mummy and Daddy will take you there one day!' He was watching some of the Planet Earth ive with the lions and elephants while he had his bedtime bottle and I said these magic words. So that got me thinking about the places I would like to take Matthew - some Ive already been to and some I havent.
1. The Isle of Wight - ok - this is cheating really as we are already booked to go there this summer but I am really looking forward to it. I know Matthew is going to love it - farms, beaches, the donkey santuary, a zoo - the perfect holiday for a 2 year old. And of course the excitement of the ferry crossing to get there.
2. Disney - got to take children to Disneyland at some point. We might go to Disneyland Paris next year for my Mum's 70th birthday.
3. York and Yorkshire. I love York and its beautiful surroundings. Matthew would love the Railway museum. Definately a place to take him to - maybe when he is a little older and can enjoy more of the museusms in York.
4. Berlin - Ive been to quite a few European cities but there was something very interesting about Berlin. Id love Matthew to go there when he is older and learn the history.
5. Italy - my favourite European country. Great weather, great beaches, fabulous cities, amazing food. Im sure we will take Matthew here one day.
6. Kenyan Safari - always been on my dream holiday list - would love to take Matthew.
7. New York - Ive been twice and loved it. Its an amazing city. Hoping Simon would do a couple of activities with Matthew so that I could hit the shops!!!
8. Australia - its a long way to go which is why we have never done it but my good friend there has just had a baby and right now I feel a long way away from her which makes me want to go visit.
9. Canada - I just loved Canada - the scenery and the wildlife was amazing. Id love Matthew to see it.
10. USA tour. Its a bit of a dream really but Id love to drive across the USA. Id love to see what life is like in some of the smaller towns of the USA. I like to spend a couple of months on the road seeing the non-touristy side of the States.
Im sure I wont achieve all this partly because Im not the adventurous type. I actually like to be inside my comfort zone and I like familiarity and dont like the unknown. Having said that when I do go on holiday I always have a great time and Matthew is only young so plenty of time to achieve my goals!

10 things on the 10th - Matthew right now!
Ten things about Matthew right now
1) He loves Fireman Sam. This obsession has been going on for sometime now. He can't tell you the name of our cat but can name the main characters in Fireman Sam. I'm taking him to see Fireman Sam at our local Toys R Us on Friday.
2) He loves the Lion King. He hasn't actually watched it all the way through - but he has seen it a couple of times. We also have a book which at bedtime he likes to read to his soft toys. Bless!
3) He is talking loads. He has a pretty good vocabulary but is now saying lots of mini sentences. At the Easter Egg hunt on Sunday he was saying Egg - where r u? Today he was saying 'very hot'. These are just two examples of his developing language skills.
4) He is obsessed with jigsaws. Loves them. He quite an active boy but this is something he will do quietly and concentrate on. We have a few that are for three year olds and he does them easily.
5) White tiger is one of his favourite cuddly toys and he loves to change his nappy!
6) He loves going in the garden and asks to go out every time someone puts their shoes on. He has a tunnel and a tent and lots of balls. He has mini golf clubs, a rugby ball, footballs etc. A sportsman's son!
7) He is getting very independent on the stairs. We are still very cautious as our stairs have a bend in them and they are quite steep but he can pretty much do it on his own.
8) Favourite foods are pasta, mango, grapes, chocolate mousse, fish fingers, tinned baby carrots, cheese, ham, toast (if you ask him what he wants to eat he usually says cheese/ham/toast), and of course he loves chocolate and cake.
9) Favourite songs are Baa Baa Black Sheep and the Animals went in Two by Two ( and the theme tune to Fireman Sam)
10) I'm really pleased with his developing manners. He has said please for a while now ( useful skill when you want something), but now he says Thank you, says pardon when he burps and in the last week or so has been making the sign for sorry.
And in 12 days time he will be 2 - where does the time go?

10 on the 10th
Ok, so I know I'm two days late but Matthew has been a bit under the weather and sleep has been a bit of an issue - especially on Saturday night when he decided that instead of going to sleep beautifully about 7.45 ( thats the norm), that he was going to have a bit of a paddy and not sleep till 9.30. Think he was practising to be a terrible two! Last night was back to normal so Im hoping it was a one off and not a new phase! Anyway to cut a long story short it means that I didnt get a chance to do my 10 list on the 10th.
My 10 is Matthew orientated. As many of you know having kids is expensive. On Saturday we went on a little shopping trip and bought a few bits for Matthew. I thought I would make a list as it will be interesting to look back and see what we were buying for him at 22 months.
10 on the 10th - Shopping for Matthew
1. Calpol
2. Junior Nurofen
3. Calpol plug ins ( can you tell he has a cold!)
4. A booster seat - I dont think it will be long before he uses this instead of a high chair and easier to take to friends and family than a high chair
5. Play doh - a current favourite
6. Finger paints - on my to do list!
7. Some trousers - to wear to a family christening this weekend
8. A new toothbrush ( honestly we spent a fortune in Boots)
9. A bargain t-shirt in TKMaxx - its a bit big for him yet but its lovely.
10. Lunch in starbucks - Matthew had some of both our paninis!
And here is a picture of what we didnt buy him - a huge car from Toys R Us - I cant believe anyone really has a house big enough for one of these!
With his birthday coming up and him growing out of his size 18-24 month clothes , im sure we will be spending even more money in the next few weeks. My husband wont be happy!

10 Things on the 10th
So its time for the monthly 10 things on the 10th. Last month were some things that I planned to do over the coming year. We have already crossed one of these of our list as a couple of weeks ago we took Matthew to the Natural History Museum. He absolutely loved it, especially all the stuffed animals and the tube journey. Simon and I were shattered when we got home from lugging him and the buggy up and down the stairs at the stations and keeping up with him in the musuem but he loved it so much it was of course worth it.
Today however marks the start of half term. Im delighted. This term has been short and although that sounds fantastic we often feel like we pack the same amount of work into the term whether it is 6 weeks or 8 weeks. Just like I often feel I pack a 5 day working week into 3 days. I love my job - but it keeps me very very busy at times.
So half term sees some time to catch up on the things that dont get done during school time. Im lucky that Matthew will still spend some time with grandparents and nursery so I hopefully will get some jobs done and have some me time.
So I have 2 lists tonight. My to do list ( jobs) and my to do list ( pleasure).
10 jobs to do at half term:
1. Medical appointments - dentist, opticians ( boring!)
2. Have a wardrobe sort out - bin some old clothes and a general tidy
3. Dressing table sort out - im hoping to get a new one soon as mine is tatty so time for a clear out!
4. Complete my album sort - started at Christmas but needs completion
5. Some school work - marking/ reports/admin/ lesson planning etc
6. Start to organise Matthew's 2nd Birthday
7. Order my new drivers license ( apparently I need to update the photo)
8. Sell a few bits on ebay and marketplace in UKS. Want to buy some new items from the latest craft ranges.
9. Go through some old magazines and tear out bits I want and throw the rest out for recycling
10. Find a couple of new recipes to try out in coming weeks. Feel like we need some new ideas.
Not all the jobs above are horrible - but they are jobs nevertheless.
10 pleasurable things to do at half term:
1. Visit friends in Eastbourne
2. Swimming and then lunch with Matthew's swimming buddies and families
3. Meet up with NCT friends
4. Breakfast with a work collegue who is a great friend and yet I never have time to talk to at work
5. A meal with a good friend
6. A shopping trip - just me!
7. A Thursday night crop
8. A Saturday crop
9. Reading magazines and books and catching up on some TV.
10. Maybe even more scrapbooking at home! Who knows!
Wow - that is going to keep me busy. Im worn out just thinking about it. This time next week I will looking forward to going back to work for a rest ( just kidding!).

10 things to do this year
Not so much resolutions but things I want to do with Matthew this year or places I want to take him.
1. The London Aquarium
2. One of the London Museums either Natural History or Science ( or both)
3. To a fire station open day
4. Have a family photo portrait done
5. Fruit picking at Garcon's Farm - ok so we picked one pumpkin last year - but a proper fruit picking session
6. A trip to the theatre ( not me as I go occasionally) but with Matthew. We have a children's theatre in Wimbledon
7. Have a proper 2nd birthday party for him and his friends. He is old enough to appreciate it this year.
8. See an Olympic event. Even though we dont have tickets Id like Matthew to see the torch or we could go to the cycle road race which is being held locally and is free (if we can get anywhere near it).
9. Get him involved in a new sport - maybe Soccatots. He already has swimming lessons.
10. More crafting/drawing/painting/baking. I have been quite nervous about these so far and it has just been colouring in but I think its time to bring on the mess.
It will be good to look back at this post at the end of the year to see what we achieved.

10 things on the 10th ( but this is really 11 things on the 11th)
Ok - so sometimes I take part in a blogging challenge by Shimelle where we all list 10 things on the 10th. But of course that was yesterday! So today Im going to go 11 things instead.
Since we had Matthew I dont get to do much scrapbooking at home, but I am lucky enough to have a supportive husband who enjoys looking after Matthew whilst I go to my monthly Saturday crops, to the Eastbourne retreat and to the fortnightly Thursday night crops. That means since my last post I have actually been very creative - 18 layouts at Eastbourne, 2 on Thursday night and 4 yesterday. So I thought I should share some with you.
Many of these layouts are from sketches or inspiring layouts in magazines - but I didnt make a note of them all but I know I cant take all the credit.
So its 11 layouts on the 11th!
